Frequently Asked Questions
Which badges do I need?
Choosing the right dosimetry badge depends on the type of radiation you work with and how you’re exposed. Most workplaces only need one or two badge types, and we’ll always help confirm the correct setup.
Whole Body OSL Monitor
This is the most commonly used badge.
- Designed for workers exposed to X-rays or gamma radiation
- Ideal for medical imaging, dental, veterinary, industrial, and research settings
- Typically worn at collar level, outside a lead apron
- Accurately measures long-term, cumulative dose
>If you work with X-rays, this is the badge you need.
Ring or Wrist Dosimeter
- Used when radiation exposure is more likely to affect the hands or extremities.
- Required for nuclear medicine, radiopharmaceutical handling, and isotope labs
- Measures localized exposure during injections, dose prep, or handling sources
- Worn on the dominant hand, closest to the source
>If you handle radioactive materials directly, this badge is essential.
Neutron Monitor Badge
- Specialized badge for environments with neutron radiation.
- Used in nuclear facilities, research reactors, accelerator labs, and certain industrial sites
- Designed to measure neutron dose that standard OSL badges cannot detect accurately
- Often worn in addition to a whole-body monitor
>If you work around high neutron concentrations, this badge is required.
Instadose® – Personal Electronic Dosimeter
- Ideal for users who need real-time dose visibility and immediate feedback.
- Provides instant, on-demand dose readings
- Readable via USB, smartphone, or tablet
- Eliminates the need to send badges back for routine reads
- Commonly used in interventional radiology, cath labs, veterinary imaging, mobile X-ray, and industrial settings
- Can be used alone or alongside traditional OSL badges, depending on compliance requirements
>If you want real-time monitoring and convenience, Instadose is a great option.
Not sure? We’ll help. Many workers only need one badge, while others may require multiple badges depending on their role and exposure. If you’re unsure, we’ll review your work environment and make sure you’re properly monitored—and fully compliant.
